“The excellence of a gift lies in its appropriateness rather than in its value.” ― Charles Dudley Warner

Christmas is right around the corner and with that I thought I’d put together a little piece on what to buy yourself/ your dad/ your boyfriend this Christmas. Most people will take the easy option; socks, a new phone, I-pad, etc. Why not stand out and get them something unique, worthy of a man! Now I’m not saying pick them up a plaid shirt and a lumberjack axe but you get my point.

Below are some items that have been on my wish-list for the last couple of months (due to a serious lack of funds!)

You could go down the clothes route but you’ll be walking a fine line unless you know the correct sizes. Instead why not class it up a bit!

First up: Grooming.

Lose the Lynx gift set and splash out a bit. I’d highly recommend picking up the American Crew gift set. This stuff is how I look as good as I do everyday. Go into any decent Barbers and you’ll find the sell Crew products and should have this in stock for Christmas.

This Luxury Wash Bag contains four of American Crew’s most popular products;
American Crew Fiber, American Crew Post-Shave Cooling Lotion, American Crew Precision Shave Gel , American Crew 3-in-1  and the American Crew Wash Bag is included.

For those that want to splash out (on a more adventurous man, I may add) why not pick him up a proper shaving set or straight razor. This is what your looking for. You may get lucky at a more upmarket barbers but if not, eBay is your friend.

Next up, interesting accessories, the kind of items every man should own but never buy for himself.
A good set of cufflinks and a tie bar is a simple yet thoughtful present for any man. I’d highly recommend checking out Etsy for these, as there are some great custom works out there from talented artists.

Another great idea is a pocket watch; classy, elegant and something that can be passed down to future generation.

For those who are going to go down the clothing route, may I recommend some great subscription sites that send out a mixed box of goods every month for a monthly fee. First one I’ve come across is http://www.FiveFourClothing.com, who send you out a box of clothing items (worth $120) for $60. Check out the Esquire article here. Don’t forget to check if they deliver to your country.
The second one is right up my street. http://www.bespokepost.com/ release six boxes a month each with a different theme. For example, one of the boxes this month is centered around the theme of “The Butcher” and includes a wooden Butcher block that would look great in any kitchen, as well as some syrups and sauces to compliment your choice of meat. Unfortunately for us Europeans, they currently only ship to the States , or Canada.

If none of these idea’s take your fancy you could always go down the gentleman route;

Pick up a decent bottle of scotch, for example Glenmorangie 10 Year old.
“A ten-year-old single malt, Glenmorangie Original is produced by marrying the delicate spirit that emerges from Scotland’s tallest stills, with first and second fill American white oak casks. On the palate, vanilla can be detected on the tongue before bringing a burst of flowery fruitiness.”

Another gift idea is to go to your local tobacconist and try pick up something like this. Don’t forget to pick up a few cigars while your there.

And if all else fails… I suppose another pair of socks can’t hurt.

That’s it from me, once again be sure to like the Facebook page to stay up to date with each new post and share throughout those social media sites ye crazy kids are fond of.
